Man With Migraines More Predisposed To Have Depression

People suffering from headache, in particular migraine, are in a greater number prone to suffer from depression, feel fatigued, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a medical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical trial involved 1300 patient who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in nine states. Of the woman surveyed, 236 reported occasional headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 656 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the man were diagnosed with migraines.

The clinical research found patient with chronic headache were four times more predisposed than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Atypical Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also five times more prone to report a high degree of symptoms related to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among woman diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the medical study found the likelihood of major Major Depression increased 32-fold if the man also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms will stir up or be a manifestation of major Atypical Depression in man with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy maxalt and Depression may heighten pain perception,” said clinical investigation author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Atypical Depression suggests a usual neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical research are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Major Depression will be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Careless of what’s causing the link between migraine and Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Depression complicates headache treatment and can give rise to poorer results for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.

The medical investigation was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which estimates 18 million American women suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to making better woman care through education and clinical study. A neurologist is a surgeon with a wide knowladge of monitoring, treating and managing diseases of the brain and nervous system such as blow, Alzheimer’s disorder, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and repeated sclerosis.
